Chapter 17 - What's you deal?

Janelle’s P.O.V. What did he just ask? Did I hear him right? He just asked me to be his girlfriend. Me! O. M. G!!!!!!!!! “Are…Are you serious!?!” I ask, befuddled. He scratches the back of his head. Oh no, please tell me I didn’t mistakenly hear this. Shit, what if it’s just a prank. My smile falters before he answers. “Of course, I’m being serious. I wouldn’t have asked otherwise.” He says with a shy smile. My shoulders relax and my heart calmss. “You don’t look happy about me asking. Maybe I shouldn’t have. Damn it. I f****d this up, didn’t I?” He cursed, losing his smile. I take his hand in mine, squeezing it tightly. “No, you didn’t mess anything up. I just got into my own head for a second. But it’s much clearer now.” He guesses my hand back and smiles a little, looking down at our joint hands. “Does that mean you’ll answer my question?” I’m an i***t! “Oh, gosh! Yes! Sorry. I mean yes, I’ll answer, Yes!” “Humm, is your answer yes?” Why am I fumbling with my words so much this morning?! Am I stupid or something?! OK, maybe not stupid, but definitely awkward. Taking one sharp breath, I square my shoulders. “Yes. My answer is yes, I’ll be your girlfriend.” The smile shining so brightly on his lips, makes mine brighten too. “Really?!” He perks up. I nod, before lowering my head a little. Why am I embarrassed? I shouldn’t be. Bexley has never, well, not since we aired out everything between us after our disaster of a first encounter, made me feel less than what I deserve. We must have lost track of time while talking because the second warning bell chimes in the hallway. He lets out a huff. “I guess that means I’ll see you in third period?” “Absolutely. Save me a seat next to you?” Did I seriously just ask him that? What am I, in a rom-com?! “I already planned on it.” He says, leaning forward and kissing my cheek. For a second, I thought he was going to kiss my lips. Although it was pretty close to them. But why am I a little disappointed that he didn’t? I just agreed to be his girlfriend and we should take out time, right? “Thanks. See you in a bit,” I mumble, my cheeks burning up. He gives my hand another squeeze before heading to his class, while I rush to get to mine. I sit down at my assigned seat and take out my textbook. “Why did Bexley kiss your cheek in the hallway?!” Oliver asks, sitting down next to me. “Well, good morning to you too,” I chuckle, rolling my eyes. “Sure, Hi. Morning. Now, why was he kissing you?” He asked again, making me frown. “Not that it's any of your business, but we're dating now. Why are you looking so upset?” This is weird… It’s weird. Why does he care so much that Bexley kissed me? It’s not like we were full-on making out for everyone to see. “Do you seriously think dating is the best thing to do right now?” I frown, turning from my seat to face him. “What do you mean?” “Shouldn't you be focusing on your studies and skating? You said you wanted to get back to it seriously. Did that change?” “First of all, no my priorities haven’t changed.” “Did he make you?” “What?” I exclaim, irritated at his insinuation. “What is wrong with you today?” “Whatever. Do what you want, but he’s going to break your heart. Just like…Never mind,” “What do you mean? Just like who?” For some reason, his words make my heart race, and not in a good way. “Never mind. Forget I said anything,” He says, turning in his seat, facing forward. “No, you don’t get to dump all this on me and just ignore me the next second! Bexley didn’t force me into anything. He’s been nothing but supportive of anything I wanted to do or not do. And Why would you even think he could ever force me to do anything? Is that how you see me? As a pushover? A meek little girl who can't take care of herself?” His face is pale, but he doesn’t answer me. “You know what, screw you, and don't talk to me before you have a sincere apology to give me, asshate,” I mumble the last part, turning back forwards as Mr.Robichaud starts class. I hear him curse under his breath, but he doesn’t say anything to me after that. What the hell is his problem? I know he and Bexley have something going on, but why would he be so upset that we would start dating? And why is it even any of his business? I can date whomever I want! I haven’t felt this good in a long time and Bexley is a great part of why I am. He’s been so kind and supportive, and not pushy. He always asks for my opinion and permission for anything, which I really appreciate. With everything I endured last year, it’s so refreshing. Oliver will have to get over whatever’s up his but! I won’t change my mind or the way I think about Bexley! He’s proven to me he’s one of the good ones. I wonder how his class is going? Could he be thinking about me? I blush a little, chewing on the end cap of my pen. I kind of miss him a little. I know we’ll see each other in barely an hour, but I can’t help it. I think I’m falling hard for him.
