The downtown Riverbank Sweets café—expanded now into a cozy two-story space with exposed brick walls, wooden beams strung with fairy lights, and a glass case perpetually filled with gingerbread in every form—opened its new “Legacy Room” on a soft spring afternoon.
The room was small and intimate: one wall lined with shelves displaying vintage baking tools from Emily’s early days, another with framed family photos spanning a century. At the center, under soft spotlighting, rested a custom glass case.
Inside: the original silver locket—open, the faded tintype of Amelia Rose Whitaker from 1862 beside the curl of auburn hair and the thin gold ring that had waited 162 years to find her finger again.
Beside it, a simple plaque engraved in flowing script:
The River Promise
A love that refuse
